An entire county's churchfolk get invited to late-summer picnic
VANCOUVER, Wash. — A new lay ministry that seeks to encourage and edify the Body of Christ throughout Clark County will bring as as many of the county’s churchfolk as possible together for a big picnic early next month.
The Clark County All-Church Picnic is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Pearson Air Museum, 1115 E. Fifth St., in Vancouver. Admission is free.
“Our goal is to bring the Church together and celebrate what God is doing in the community,” said local businessman Ryan Hurley, an organizer of Detour Ministries, the event sponsor.
Hurley said Detour has been developed after about nine years of prayerful consideration and is headed by representatives of several Clark County churches of varying denominations. He said the word “detour” indicates men and women taking a special heavenbound path of “discovering their magnum opus – God’s great work for their lives.”
“We’re a very marketplace ministry,” he said. “We are guys who are all tentmakers. We love the Lord with all of our heart.”
Plans for the picnic were outlined last month with a special pastors’ breakfast held at Café D’Vine at 63rd and Andresen.
The picnic will include live worship led by a praise team representing numerous churches, a brief message and prayer time, bouncy inflatables, pony rides, airplane rides and more. Those attending are asked to bring a picnic lunch, blankets and park toys.
