National, global prayer readied

Two distinct but similar prayer movements will again see millions of people involved this month, one on a national scale, the other on a global level.
In both cases, many local observances will take place.
The National Day of Prayer, a tradition across the United States since 1952, returns Thursday, May 1, with thousands of events in all 50 states. Theme this year is “Prayer: America’s Strength and Shield.”
The seventh annual Global Day of Prayer, while still lesser known in the United States, will see millions of Christians in almost every nation of the world on Pentecost Sunday, May 11, including at dozens of events throughout this nation. Participants are urged to take part in 10 days of intensive individual prayer from May 1 though 10 prior to the formal worldwide prayer day.
The roster of National Day of Prayer events throughout Oregon and southwest Washington is too extensive to be listed here, but can be viewed by going on the web to www.ndptf.org/custom/events/
eventSearch/ The Christian events calendar on Christian News Northwest’s web site, www.cnnw.com, also will include a list of those events that were specifically submitted to the newspaper by press time.
In Oregon and southwest Washington, five events were scheduled on the Global Day of Prayer’s American web site, www.gdopusa.com.
