Roseburg sees a united
stand against child abuse
ROSEBURG — Sparked by a local Christian ministry, a united message was proclaimed over and over on the streets of Roseburg Friday and Saturday Oct. 15 and 16. With the message “Enough is Enough,” local businesses and churches joined to shout a collective “No more! ” to the rising pandemic of child trauma and abuse.
TrueNorth Star Ministries, the driving force behind the campaign, has been fighting the battle against child trauma and abuse in the Roseburg community since 1998. Kids are their passion and empowerment is their goal. However, according to Ken and Charly Kenyon of the ministry, the staff has noticed a disturbing reality. People simply do not know the shocking statistics — that every family in Douglas County has or will suffer the searing effects of child abuse; either personally or relationally.
The Enough is Enough campaign was designed to compel people to take action to protect children. TrueNorth Star Ministries is committed to equipping the general public with practical ways to make a positive difference in the lives of kids and families. It partnered with more than 90 local businesses and churches to raise awareness and persuade people to act. From 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m on Saturday, hundreds of volunteers stood at every major intersection in the city holding banners proclaiming that “Enough is Enough.”
