'Jabez' author tapped for awards banquet
PORTLAND--The author of one of the most successful books in Christian
publishing history has been secured as the featured speaker for
Tuesday, March 19, at the annual Christian Servant Award Banquet
sponsored by the Northwest Christian Community Foundation.
Bruce Wilkinson is the author of The Prayer of Jabez and president
of Walk Through the Bible. He is recognized as one of the most respected
communicators of Biblical truth in the Christian community today.
This year, Jabez became a publishing phenomenon for Oregon-based
Multnomah Publishing. A special Web site for the book reports that
more than 8 million copies have been sold, not to mention the massive
amount of related books and products that resulted from the huge
public demand.
Walk Thru the Bible is an international seminar,
publishing, training, and media ministry whose mission is to contribute
to the spiritual growth of Christians worldwide through Bible teaching,
training, and tools. Walk Thru the Bible conducts 2,500 seminars
in the United States each year and publishes 11 magazines each year,
including Daily Walk, YouthWalk, and Stand Firm. In 1998, Wilkinson
founded WorldTeach, which is a global initiative to develop a Bible
teacher for every 50,000 people in every nation of the world.
Wilkinson has also authored or co-authored many other books, including
Living the Jabez Miracle, Secrets of the Vine, Experiencing Spiritual
Break-throughs, 30 Days to Spiritual Break-throughs, Personal Holiness
in Times of Temptation, Talk Thru the Old Testament, Talk Thru the
New Testament, Talk Thru Bible Personalities, Almost Every Answer
for Practically Any Teacher and Victory Over Temptation.
He has also served on the overview committee for the New King
James version of the Bible, authored the Books of the Bible outlines
and co-edited the introductions for The Open Bible. He is executive
editor of four best-selling Bibles. Wilkinson was born in New Jersey
into a Christian home and graduated from Northeastern Bible College,
Dallas Theological Seminary and Western Seminary in Portland. He
served as college and graduate school professor at Multnomah Bible
College. He and his wife Darlene reside in Cumming, Ga. They have
three children and four grandchildren.
The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Grand Ball Room of
the Jantzen Beach Double Tree Hotel. Open reservations begin Feb.

At the banquet, approximately 12 Christian servants are honored
who labor for the Kingdom of God. Grants are awarded to each of
their respective Christian organizations on their behalf. Organizers
say nominees distinguish themselves by reflecting the fruits of
the Spirit, the Barnabas quality of encouragement, and
use their gifts, talents, and dedication to produce inspiring results
in their respective ministries.
