'Jabez' author tapped for awards banquet

PORTLAND--The author of one of the most successful books in Christian publishing history has been secured as the featured speaker for Tuesday, March 19, at the annual Christian Servant Award Banquet sponsored by the Northwest Christian Community Foundation.

Bruce Wilkinson is the author of The Prayer of Jabez and president of Walk Through the Bible. He is recognized as one of the most respected communicators of Biblical truth in the Christian community today.

This year, Jabez became a publishing phenomenon for Oregon-based Multnomah Publishing. A special Web site for the book reports that more than 8 million copies have been sold, not to mention the massive amount of related books and products that resulted from the huge public demand.

Walk Thru the Bible is an international seminar, publishing, training, and media ministry whose mission is to contribute to the spiritual growth of Christians worldwide through Bible teaching, training, and tools. Walk Thru the Bible conducts 2,500 seminars in the United States each year and publishes 11 magazines each year, including Daily Walk, YouthWalk, and Stand Firm. In 1998, Wilkinson founded WorldTeach, which is a global initiative to develop a Bible teacher for every 50,000 people in every nation of the world.

Wilkinson has also authored or co-authored many other books, including Living the Jabez Miracle, Secrets of the Vine, Experiencing Spiritual Break-throughs, 30 Days to Spiritual Break-throughs, Personal Holiness in Times of Temptation, Talk Thru the Old Testament, Talk Thru the New Testament, Talk Thru Bible Personalities, Almost Every Answer for Practically Any Teacher and Victory Over Temptation.

He has also served on the overview committee for the New King James version of the Bible, authored the Books of the Bible outlines and co-edited the introductions for The Open Bible. He is executive editor of four best-selling Bibles. Wilkinson was born in New Jersey into a Christian home and graduated from Northeastern Bible College, Dallas Theological Seminary and Western Seminary in Portland. He served as college and graduate school professor at Multnomah Bible College. He and his wife Darlene reside in Cumming, Ga. They have three children and four grandchildren.

The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Grand Ball Room of the Jantzen Beach Double Tree Hotel. Open reservations begin Feb. 15. Individual tickets are $30, or reservations for a 10-person table is $300. To reserve seats, call 503-675-9023.

At the banquet, approximately 12 Christian servants are honored who labor for the Kingdom of God. Grants are awarded to each of their respective Christian organizations on their behalf. Organizers say nominees distinguish themselves by reflecting the fruits of the Spirit, the “Barnabas quality” of encouragement, and use their gifts, talents, and dedication to produce inspiring results in their respective ministries.

Nominations can be made by acquiring an application from the foundation office after Feb. 15 by calling 503-675-9023.
